Q. What is "ACR" Glass and how does it compare to "E" Glass?
A. The material that we use to produce our mat is an industrial recycled "A" glass product. The major difference between "A" and "E" glass is in the proportion of some of the constituents utilized to manufacture the glass, i.e., Sodium Oxide, Aluminum Oxide, and Calcium Oxide. These differences provide "A" glass with significant improvements in corrosion resistance performance in acidic environments in comparison to "E" glass. We also surface treat our fibers during the fiber attenuation stage of the manufacturing process. This procedure permits our mats to achieve mechanical properties that approximate those achieved with "E" glass.
Q. Which process is continuous strand mat mostly used in?
A. Continuous Strand Mat is utilized in the following "closed" molding processes:
- Resin Transfer Molding
- Vacuum Infusion
- Cold Press Molding
- Reinforced Reaction Injection Molding
- Pultrusion
Q. Do you have products that will work in all of the above processes?
A. We offer the following product line to service your needs:
- 910 mat for RTM and Cold Press Molding, and Vacuum Infusion
- 910-5 mat for reinforcing Urethane resin systems (interior trim for auto/truck market)
- 910-8 mat for electrical flat sheets
- 910-7 Performable Mat for RTM and Cold Press Molding
- 941 Mat for pultrusion
- 941-11 Hi Green Tensile Mat for pultrusion
Q. What weight and widths do you offer?
A. We offer all of the above mats in the following widths and weights:
- Widths ranging between 24" (minimum) and 84" (maximum)
- Weights ranging between 1 oz/ft2 (minimum) and 30 oz/ft2 (maximum) in 1/4 oz increments
Q. Who sells your products other than buying direct from you?
A. We currently have several distributors selling our products:
- Composites One
- Superior Solvents and Chemicals
- Ashland - FRP Supply Division
- Min-Chem Canada, Inc. (Ontario & Quebec)
Q. Who should we contact for a sample of your material?
A. Contact Bob Carvalho (508-993-3726) or Dave Miller (740-569-4175) of Superior Fibers, or one of the distributors mentioned above.
